Banner Year

image

"Pieces created for my ‘Banner Year’ solo show at Why Lou Two in Louisville, Kentucky. The collection featured 8 handcrafted banners.

I designed 8 simple quotes that served as part motivation, part fun. The canvas was prepared and handed over to sign painter extraordinaire Kirby Stafford, to paint the designs. Couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.”

Two Arms Inc. is a ( soon to be husband and wife team ) founded by Mike Tabie and Karen Goheen in 2009. We met 6 years ago in Orlando, FL while working with a local design agency and screen-printing together on nights and weekends. We independently moved to New York but continued to work separately within large and small design agencies. After a year we decided to take the plunge and partner together and start a business with our own vision in mind. There is nothing more satisfying then working with someone you love and trust. We love collaborating and getting our hands dirty. We are specialists of the handmade. We believe in craftsmanship, an attention to detail, and that sweet spot between concept and execution. We started this business because we care about what we do, and we want to work with clients who are passionate about their vision.” — Two Arms Inc.

HERB LESTERLUGGAGE TAG SET

image

"When we aren’t working, we are traveling! Well …traveling to the bodega, traveling to find the best NY Slice, or traveling to the nearest bar… Even if we don’t venture far from our humble Brooklyn neighborhood, we don’t leave without a custom set of four double-sided tags: Air, Rail, Land, Sea. This product was a fun collaboration with our favorite team across the pond, Herb Lester Associates. These tag’s are printed on almost indestructible Tyvek®, a 1950s miracle product that looks like paper but resists tears and water."

BELL & OAK | FINE LEATHER GOODS PACKAGING

"At the corner of Bell and Oak street in Denton Texas is Weldon’s Saddle shop, where Clint Wilkson’s grandfather has hand crafted leather since 1957. Bell & Oak leather goods is dedicated to his grandfather’s craft of building saddles. All of the products are made using the same processes and tools that have been in his family for decades. We absolutely loved Clint’s work, and were thrilled to work with him to create his packaging. The Bell and Oak logo was created by one of our favorite designers Curtis Jinkins of Neighborhood Studios."

Insta Slow Jams

image

"A collection of typographic gifs based on rnb/hip hop lyrics…It was Valetine’s Day! I decided to celebrate with a whole lot of 90s rnb/hip hop lovin/cheatin/cryin/trying tracks, releasing a series of typo based gifs on Instagram called ‘INSTA SLOW JAMS’. All the type and pattern work was hand drawn, then built up digitially to animate.

More to come and I am obviously very single with the time to do this.”

Never Ending Bummer | Solo Show

image

"‘Never Ending Bummer’ is a series of illustrative, hand generated type based artworks that visualises cycles of anticipation, observation and reflections of a spent summer.

These monochromatic works develop experimental compositions where letters and phrasing are deconstructed from a cyclical theme, allowing each phrase to become an exaggerated visualisation of anticipation and disappointments. While each work is unrelated to the next, the final collection is layered with details of rhythm, repetition, and sequence, further shaping the sense of dramatic change within seasons, relationships, time, and fortune.”

WUTANG PRINT

image

"Having people in my life that support and inspire my creativity has been essential to my work. Someone in my life that has always loved and supported my work is my big brother, Kevin. Every birthday and christmas he asks me and my sister to use our skills to create something new to add to his collection of our work. He doesn’t put any limitations or guidelines on what he wants, he simply allows us freely create. Some of my favorite pieces that I have created were inspired by my brother, including my Wutang Print."

THE BIG LEBOWSKI COASTERS

image

"Every year for Christmas, I try my best to make thoughtful and personal gifts for my family members. Always pushing myself to make each years present more creative and exciting than the last. This year I decided to make a gift for my dad inspired by one of our favorite movies, The Big Lebowski. One of the most hilarious movies, with some of the most memorable lines, I knew I had to make something special to do the movie justice."

HAND LETTERING

image

"My hand lettering started as quick sketches to get ideas out of my head before creating logos and typographic imagery on a digital platform. As my sketches became more detailed, I started to enjoy them more than their digital offspring. I soon began to put more time and effort into my hand lettering: practicing and experimenting with this new medium.
I love the freedom of creating away from the computer and embrace the imperfections that come with drawing by hand. This form of expression allows me to combine my love of design and my love of art into one piece. And I must say that I have become an addict.”
